Heat your oven to 450°F. Coat a 9x9 pan made of glass or ceramic with cooking spray.

On medium-high heat, cook the sausage in a big skillet till it’s no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes. Drain it with paper towels.

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder. Pour in buttermilk and stir gently until the dough feels sticky. If needed, add a splash more buttermilk. Mix in sausage and cheese carefully.

Pour the melted butter into your pan, then drop the biscuit mixture on top. Spread it out and cut it into 9 portions.

Place the pan on the middle rack and bake for 25-30 minutes. Rotate halfway through. If it’s browning too fast, cover it with foil. It’s done when a toothpick comes out clean.
