German Frikadellen Patties (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 450g (1 pound) of minced beef, or a combination of beef and pork
02 - 1 small finely chopped onion
03 - 1 minced garlic clove
04 - 1 large egg

→ Dairy & Bread

05 - 1 piece of old white bread
06 - 4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) milk

→ Herbs & Spices

07 - 1 teaspoon mustard (Dijon or regular)
08 - A teaspoon of salt
09 - Half a teaspoon of ground pepper
10 - 1/2 teaspoon paprika
11 - A pinch of ground marjoram (optional)
12 - 1 tablespoon of freshly chopped parsley

→ Cooking Needs

13 - 2 tablespoons butter or oil for frying

# Instructions:

01 - Soak your stale bread slice in milk for a good 5 minutes. Once it’s soft, squeeze the bread gently to remove the extra milk, then tear it into little bits. This goes aside for now; it’ll make the patties juicy.
02 - Put the minced meat, onion, garlic, egg, bread mixture, mustard, and the list of spices (salt, black pepper, paprika, marjoram if you'd like, and parsley) into a big bowl. Stir gently until everything's mixed—don’t overdo it, so the texture stays tender.
03 - Using your hands, separate the meat mix into portions (4 to 6, depending on how big you want them). Shape each one into an oval patty about 1/2 inch thick. Think of them as longer-than-usual burgers.
04 - Warm oil or butter in a wide frying pan over medium heat. Drop in the patties and cook them for about 4-5 minutes per side. You're looking for a lovely golden brown outside and meat that’s cooked through (internal temp should hit 160°F/71°C).
05 - Serve these patties while they’re still hot. They pair perfectly with mashed potatoes, crusty bread, or a tangy potato salad.

# Notes:

01 - These German-style patties taste amazing when chilled and stuffed into sandwiches with mustard or pickles.
02 - If you want to kick it up a notch, add a tiny amount of nutmeg or a pinch of cayenne to the mixture.
03 - Don’t like frying? Use a lined baking tray at 375°F (190°C). Bake them for 25 minutes, flipping once halfway.
