Baked Cinnamon Apples (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ What You Need for the Baked Apples

01 - 6 apples for baking (try McIntosh, Granny Smith, Jonagold, Fuji, Golden Delicious, Braeburn, or Rome Beauty)
02 - 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
03 - 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
04 - 1 cup of hot water to use in the dish
05 - 1/3 cup raisins or dried cranberries
06 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
07 - 3 tablespoons butter that’s unsalted
08 - 1/4 cup finely diced walnuts (optional)

→ Extras for Topping

09 - Vanilla ice cream or plain whipped cream (unsweetened)
10 - A drizzle of caramel sauce

# Instructions:

01 - Turn your oven on to 375°F. In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. Toss in the dried cranberries and stir everything together.
02 - Cut out the cores of your apples but don’t go all the way through—leave the bottoms intact. Arrange the apples in a casserole dish, making sure they don’t lean on each other.
03 - Scoop equal amounts of the sugar mixture into the apples. Sprinkle the leftover cinnamon mix on top, and add 1/2 tablespoon of butter and walnuts to each apple if you’re using them.
04 - Pour the hot water into the baking dish. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes at 375°F until the apples soften and are cooked through. Bigger apples or different types might need more time.

# Notes:

01 - These warm apples have flavors similar to apple pie filling. Enjoy them plain, or top them off with ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel.
02 - For the best texture, stick with apples that are tart and crisp.
